100% Full -Time regular (35 hours)

Salary Scale:

$26.38 to $35.22 hourly rate

nATURE OF THE WORK

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting teachers and students in preparing, presenting, supervising and evaluating laboratory and shop work. You may as well be required to perform the duties of laboratory attendant. Your role also consists in ensuring, in conjunction with teachers, that students respect safety rules during laboratory work, that they use the material appropriately and that they apply the appropriate techniques. In addition, you will be required to:

  • Provide instructions, advise, guide and oversee students in carrying out laboratory work;
  • Work with and support teachers when students are in the laboratories; assist in the preparation of the schedule of laboratory work and the use of premises, material and equipment. If need be, test and modify projects for students and find new ones;
  • Prepare the material, chemical or other products and equipment required to carry out the laboratory work planned;
  • Participate in selecting apparatus, tools, machinery and instruments; calibrate and maintain them and ensure their repair; keep an inventory of materials and products; prepare purchase orders or carry out the purchases required for laboratory work; may monitor the budget allocated to pertaining sector;
  • Ensure, according to standards, identification, use, storage and disposal of hazardous products and may participate in organizing exhibits.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma of College Studies in an appropriate technical program for the class of employment or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority;
  • Membre of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ);
  • PDSB and CPR trainer certification;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English, spoken and written;
  • Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
